Which Is Better?

Which is better?

A great place to start: Look at the comparison of the costs and benefits of each.

A monthly rent payment goes into your landlord's pocket. After 5 years of paying rent, your wallet is lighter and you don't have much to show for it.

A monthly home payment goes to your lender and reduces your loan balance. After 5 years, if the value of your home has grown higher, you get something you never see as a renter: home equity.

The question is whether you want to pay to borrow something or pay to own something.
